Welcome to the Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), Gurugram.
Established in 1991 under the Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India, IPFT has emerged as a premier national institution dedicated to advancing science, technology, and innovation in pesticide formulations and sustainable crop protection solutions. Over the years, the Institute has built strong capabilities in formulation development, analytical characterization, bio-evaluation, residue analysis, regulatory studies, and technology transfer, serving as a trusted partner to industry, academia, farmers, and regulatory agencies.
At IPFT, we are committed to developing safe, effective, affordable, and environmentally sustainable crop protection technologies that address the evolving needs of Indian agriculture. Our NABL-accredited analytical laboratories, OECD-GLP-certified facilities, and CIB&RC-recognized research infrastructure enable us to provide comprehensive scientific solutions ranging from product development and analytical testing to efficacy evaluation, residue studies, and regulatory support.
A significant milestone in the Institute’s journey has been the approval of a dedicated Biofoundry for Biopesticides and Their Formulations by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. This state-of-the-art facility will accelerate innovation in biological crop protection technologies by supporting strain development, formulation optimization, scale-up, validation, and commercialization. The Biofoundry is expected to play a transformative role in promoting India’s bioeconomy and advancing sustainable agricultural practices.
Recognizing the increasing importance of biological agricultural inputs, IPFT has expanded its capabilities in the area of biostimulants by establishing dedicated facilities for their characterization, evaluation, and performance assessment. These facilities are designed to support product developers, startups, and industry stakeholders in generating scientific data required for product validation and regulatory compliance.
In a major step towards strengthening academic excellence and human resource development, IPFT has initiated a Ph.D. programme in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi). This collaborative programme provides opportunities for cutting-edge research in formulation science, analytical chemistry, toxicology, biotechnology, environmental sciences, and sustainable agricultural technologies. Through this initiative, we aim to nurture highly skilled researchers and promote innovation-driven scientific advancements.
The Institute continues to undertake sponsored research projects, consultancy assignments, analytical services, GLP studies, bioefficacy evaluations, residue investigations, and regulatory studies for national and international stakeholders. Our scientists are actively engaged in developing advanced pesticide formulations, nano-enabled delivery systems, bio-based pesticides, microbial formulations, botanical products, and innovative technologies that enhance efficacy while minimizing environmental impact.
Technology transfer remains one of the core strengths of IPFT. The Institute has successfully developed and transferred several innovative pesticide formulations and technologies to industrial partners, thereby facilitating commercialization and contributing to the growth of the agrochemical sector. We continue to strengthen our partnerships with industry through collaborative research, contract studies, and customized technological solutions.
IPFT has also gained international recognition through the successful conduct of the Analytical Skill Development Course (ASDC) for the next 3 years and can be extendable two more additional years (total 5 years) sponsored by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), The Hague, The Netherlands. The programme brings together participants from various member countries and provides advanced hands-on training in modern analytical techniques such as GC and GC-MS, quality assurance, chemical safety, and regulatory practices. Through this prestigious international training initiative, IPFT contributes to global capacity building, scientific cooperation, and the development of skilled human resources in analytical sciences and chemical safety.
IPFT also plays a vital role in capacity building through training programmes, workshops, conferences, and awareness initiatives. The successful organization of national and international scientific events, including BIOPSF 2026 – NextGen Bio-Inputs: Bio-based Pesticides, Stimulants and Fertilizers, reflects our commitment to fostering collaboration among researchers, industry leaders, policymakers, startups, and entrepreneurs working towards sustainable agricultural development.
As we look to the future, our vision is to establish IPFT as a globally recognized Centre of Excellence for pesticide formulations, biopesticides, biostimulants, bio-inputs, analytical sciences, regulatory studies, and translational research. We are committed to developing innovative technologies that support food security, environmental sustainability, farmer prosperity, and the growth of India’s agricultural bioeconomy.
I invite researchers, academicians, industry partners, startups, policymakers, and students to collaborate with us in transforming scientific discoveries into impactful technologies for sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship.
Together, let us innovate for a safer, greener, and more sustainable future.
